Mouldy Kaya

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Had craving for Kaya Roti the other day, and discovered that my kaya had moulds growing!! Eeek!
Must be BS and GL. They had lots of my Glory Nonya Kaya when they were here. Imagine their saliva spawned into moulds.

EEK! Disgusting!

Pacific Chicken Rice Set

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

We went Victoria St over the weekend to do our weekly grocery shopping and had lunch at Pacific House. WAH LAU~!! Best Char Siew, Roast Duck and Cracking Pork in Melbourne I think. Check out the oily juicy meat. *Mmmm….

We also bought more Char Siew coz we were firm on making our chicken rice work. So we bought the sticky black sauce that all chicken rice stall use and using our chicken rice chilli we bought last week, we had everything we needed to make chicken rice.

Heeding advice from fellow Singaporean who had success in their rice, we fried lots of chicken skin/fats with blended ginger and garlic. Then stirred in the rice (as you would in making risotto). Tranfer into the rice cooker, add pandan leaves and chicken stock and… We succeeded!!!

Our Chicken Rice set completed with sauce and even steamed oyster sauce vegetable and soup.

Beautiful Shopping Spree

Monday, August 29th, 2005

Aiyoh! CT literally dragged me out of the house today. She said that since it’s such a beautiful day, “WE HAVE TO GET OUT!!”. So we went to Bridge Road (Shopping Mecca here).

Die lah, I bought a new pair of shoes and a Clutch bag from Mimco.

Here comes the Sun

Monday, August 29th, 2005

I was a Beautiful Sunny weekend and we started our Saturday brunch at “Gluttony It’s a Sin” in Collingwood and then we walked around a bit.

Some of the pictures I took.

Sweets pretty desserts in the window : Dogs waiting for their owner who went shopping in some Opp Shop : Happy Herbs Shop (wonder what they sell inside)

Then, I saw this poster and it reminded me of GL. She has this handbag that has this same print on it. I miss GL again. *sigh…

Since it’s such a beautiful day, we went to Calton Gardens to busk in the sun and have some couple time together - well, basically, KL laid on the grass doing his ‘Sudoku’, while I ran off to take pictures of the garden.

I nearly got lost when I was following this gal and her pet goose. The goose is so cute, followed the gal everywhere she went. When the gal stopped, the goose stopped. Poor gal had to walk along the pond or else the goose would refuse to move from his spot. So I took some pictures to show KL.

I finally found KL still lying on the same spot trying to study this ‘Sudoku’ puzzle. I snuggled under his arm and took pictures of our surrounding instead. I was worried I might get lost again if I wandered too far.

Toilet Paper Heaven

Friday, August 26th, 2005

ARGH!! So addicted to that damn korean drama. Cried so much, I ran out of tissue paper so I’ve been using toilet paper and just finished a roll.

It’s those every 5mins cry once kind. Tears can’t even dry up in time.

Thumby

Friday, August 26th, 2005

I just cut my thumb about half hour ago and was pretty freaked out about it coz the skin was hanging off the thumb. However, I’m amazed how I still managed to take a picture of it to show it off. Hah!

Spooky Grotto

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

Went for a walk to find the second nearest church at my place because the first one was disappointing - closed everyday except mass on sunday. *sigh…

Found St Joseph quite a walk from my place. Within view, I found myself racing toward church. Trying to find the entrance, I nearly tripped over the steps. When I pushed open the door, I was hit by the smell of old rotting wood as well as pee? Slowly I walked to the side to have a better look at the altar. It was smelly, dark and quiet. No one was there except me. The statues inside had their eyes on me, following every step I took silently. The painting of Jesus with blood on the wall, frightened me. As I had a better view of the altar, I was filled with disappointment. The velvety drape of curtains were old and dirty, dark maroon in colour. Hanging in front of it, was a simple dark wood Cross with no Jesus on it. Soon, I felt really weird and eerie. As fast as I ran in, I dash out of the church almost with that same speed.

Disappointed that I was spooked by the church (which never happen before), I chanced upon a little grotto at the side of the church. I think it’s the Lady of Lourdes. I sat quietly at the bench and prayed. When I opened my eyes, I had a better look at the Grotto and got spooked again. It feels like Haw Par Villa.

I’m so silly!

Korean Dinner

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

We had Korean/Japanese for dinner last night. I made Chuwamushi, Beef Bulgolgi, Fried Ikan Bilis Korean style, Miso soup and Green tea.

Inspired by this stupid Korean drama series - Stairway to Heaven. Been crying buckets of tears right now. Wah Lau!

Leftover Lunch

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

So, I had leftover from Sunday’s dinner for lunch. Just add some Dark Soy Sauce and it’s yummy! KL helped me shred the chicken and licked his fingers at the same time. So gross!

Chicken Rice

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

KL and I decided to make chicken rice over the weekend with association to the theme of ‘Homesickness’. The chicken was nice and tender but the rice was too dry - I think we were too health conscience and didn’t put much oil.

*Pics of the ingredients:

-Frozen Pandan Leaves from “Cock on the Mountain Top”. Hehee… I don’t have the luxury of buying fresh Pandan Leaves here.

-Nice Plump Naked Chicken begging for mercy - “Please, don’t eat me!

-KL cutting ginger - check out the bag of chicken skin in the background. Best way to eat them is deepfried of course.

-Boiling water with garlic and ginger for the chicken.

And, the final product!

Pigout Heaven

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

There are the local delights we had on Friday night. There was a lot more dishes, which I was too busy eating to take pics of.

Thanks COSDU!!

Beef Rendang (I love this!!! Ate a whole lot) : Claypot Rice toppings : Stewed pork

Green Curry (forgot to eat this) : Char Kway Teow (Noel made this - it’s humful according to him. hehee) : Sambal Belacan Kangkong (fast selling - love it)

Some dried curry dish : Prata (since we love our curries) : Bak Kut Teh(didnt have any coz I can make it =P)

Nasi Lemak Rice (KL thought I’m mad to take pics of rice) : fried chicken wings (for nasi lemak) : hardboiled eggs & te-boon (cucumber) for nasi lemak

Gado-Gado (forgot to take pic of the sauce) : Keropok (to go with gado gado) : Kway kway (dessert which I had no room for)

Homesickness

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

Last week, I was requested by Noel to go to his group thingie and give my version on ‘homesickness’. It took a long time for me to agree to do it because; I thought I am already on a slow recovery from homesickness and didn’t wanna stir up any feeling again. But, has one ever recover from homesickness? I don’t think so. And since I have previous experience sharing my life with total strangers - The last one I did was some church “Examination Prayer” thingy. I talked about my failed suicide attempt as well as social pressures relating to studies. At the end of that session, a nice mother came up to me and gave me her Rosary. I thought that was the sweetest gesture anyone ever did to show their appreciation. So, I agreed to Noel’s request (hoping for some other sweeter gesture). Heh!

Well, the sharing went alright. Although I thought it could have been better because I was nervous and choking with my feelings regarding daddy. KL thought I was funny which was essential (in GL’s opinion) in maintaining attention - aka, audience falling asleep. I don’t think it was delibrate but, its very natural for me to be funny. Hahaa.. not shy!

I feel so damn super old!! They are mainly kids, age ranging from about 19years old? ARGH!! To add to that, Noel showed me a picture of us taken in 1995. Gosh! I couldn’t help staring at the photo because it also had GL and BS at their youngest! Haha! Even KL can’t recognise them.

Anyway, after the sharing, we adjourned to some girl’s place for some potluck dinner coinciding with our theme of homesickness. We had so much food. Rendang, Char Kway Teow, Gado gado, nasi lemak, green curry, kimchi, bak kut teh, claypot rice, chicken curry, mee siam, sambal belacan kangkong, prata, keropok, agar-agar, soya bean milk, the works. All Singapore/Malaysian dishes. KL was in HEAVEN.

During dinner/pigging out, the kids came to thank me for sharing. I said, “Oh, I’m only here for the food.” Hahaa… While I worked hard for our dinner, KL was busy eating dinner. I had 3 rounds, KL had…err…6?

*Pics of the feast we had on Friday in different angles - was trigger/belly happy lah.

Boring Chores

Friday, August 19th, 2005

We finally put up the spare bed/mattress in the spare room so that we have more space. Somehow, we tend to spend more time in this spare room/computer room/guest room than our own bedroom. All thanks to KL who said that we should separate work and rest. Well, I like to think of the spare room as my laundry room where my ironing board and laundry baskets of clean clothes are.

Not my Wedding…

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

I think it’s really cool that despite the distance and of coz busy lifestyle, I still manage to “see” my friends almost everyday. Not only that, I have been busy helping NL and BS with their wedding preparation even though I’m not physically there. It’s honestly very cool to be so involved in another person’s wedding.

Just last week, I had to literally force them to confirm their wedding church mass timing as well as confirming their venue to hold their after church reception. It’s in NOVEMBER!! argh! I don’t know why I’m so gan-chong about their wedding when they had like more than a year to plan it while our were planned within less than 5 months. I’m sure some people thought ours was shot-gun. Hahaa…

Anyway, I was with NL when she chose/designed her wedding gown and package. GL took over when I came here. Today, I just helped critic her wedding shots done earlier this month. Ahhh…the wonderful world of the internet.

Just the other day, GL told me about the bouquet of flowers she received. Getting excited like a teenager (well, only I was excited), we started to game-plan. I was her advisor on whether to text him back or just call him. I was sure fun while it last.

I’m truly blessed to be still involved with my friend’s lives even when I’m not in SunnyLand.

Domestic Bday Gifts

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

This is a long overdue post about the only 2 birthday gifts I received this year. My husband (hair stand!) bought me this luxurious Country Road plush terry-towel bathrobe for my birthday. It is so posh-feeling - the 5 star hotel kind except it’s only been used by me!

The other present is from my best friends - BS and GL. It’s a high-end salon kind hairdryer. It is the fancy Vidal Sassoon Quietone 2000. Even KL love it so much he ask me to dry his hair for him too.

I realised as the number of candles on your birthday cake increases, your birthday presents decreases. Some kind of weird pattern. Nevertheless, I’m really happy about my presents this year. Afterall, GL reminded me that one should be contented.

Qn: Why has all my gifts domesticated?
Ans: Becoz, they are your true buddies who know you are a practical person who hates useless junks and what you need and don’t need.

Connection

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

Other than all the food, family and friends I miss in Sunnyland, I miss most are all those little connections I had with certain people. People from the mat-rock music industry to the Sunnyland small film industry.

I remember going to SIFF with KL and always meeting people/friends/ex-classmates and even celebrities. I feel so cool to be “connected”. Even when KL was not in SunnyLand and I went for some local film premier, I’ll still meet some of KL’s friends and they always asked about him - even though I was there with BS (an obvious guy companion).

How many of you can say that you been to a couple of recording studios or post production studio, just to hang out. Or Substation as well as Youth Park to watch friends perform and after that, go out Teh-Ping/Prata with them?

Okay, Mat-rock is not exactly my style. But I have been to a few of the local malay musician homes for dinners, also eat prata at the same table and lastly, patronise their wives stalls at Bussorah Street during Hari Raya. Geez, even support them when they have some concerts at public open space.

Well, those were my hay days. No time for the other darker “hayier daze” story. Haha. I’m now nothing but a nobody housefly trying to live in KoalaLand with KL and I’m happy.

Where is the Mole?

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

Last night, we went through the questions to prepare ourselves for the immigration interview today. So we rehearsed confirming what is our favourite food (everything!), hobbies (err…such an old fashion question), etc. I added some questions - intimate questions.

So I asked him, “when was the last time we had sex.” And since we are suppose to shout out the answers at the same time, KL said, “Saturaday!” I screamed, “Sunday!!” Goodness, the interviewer might think that we’re having sex with other people on different days!!!” ARGH!!! The truth is, ” Saturaday & Sunday” Hehee… I so can imagine BS sniggering somewhere in SunnyLand right now. ARGH!

Anyway, then I told him that if she asked what we did together last night. We’ll say, “We baked a cake together.” The truth - Betty Crocker Devil’s Cake. Then again, this morning on our way to the interview in the car, I asked him what we did last night. He shouted excitedly, “Baked a cake together!!” I said, “Had sex!” ARGH!!! We had no more time to rehearse. I throw my hands in the air and surrender!

Well, we just came back from the interview, everything went well except that they asked about the specific dates on when we met, how we became a couple and etc. Honestly, after nearly 10 years of being together and starting out as friends, it is near impossible to know the exact dates. So we came clean and said we not sure but roughly this and that.

For the rest of you who wants to know if they asked any intimate questions - answer is NO. They didn’t even asked about which side of his buttocks had the mole. And if they did ask, I’ll say in my most psychotic lunatic voice, “What mole? Who told u about the mole? He showed you? Why you anyhow see my husband’s buttock?? Who gave you permission??” Hehee…

So I guess everything went well with immigration, just need to wait for my police clearance and then I’ll get my visa.

*Disclaimer: It doesn’t mean that we are THAT “happening” all the time. There are periods of dry-spell you know.
