Flu Vaccination

On Monday, I saw a line of people sitting outside one of the meeting rooms sucking on a green lolly. Then I realised, they are there for the free flu vaccination my company was providing.
I had a flu vaccination courtesy of my company today (simply because I’m ‘yeow gui’ - free one leh). I kind out missed the dateline to register for it but I called anyway and was put on the waiting list. The vaccination will only take place on Monday and Wednesday. Seeing that I managed to “escape” on Monday, my guard was down today because I simply forgot about it. The phone call came at 10.14am informing me that I have been booked in for the 11.11am vaccination. *DARN!
Since that telephone call, I became rather nervous. Strangely, I have never been sooo afraid of the needle. I had some sort of injection every year (health check, few surgery, etc). I think I was more worried about falling sick after the flu vaccination.
I went in, was told that the vaccination will only take effect after 2 weeks. Which means I will be slowly build up the immunity within these 2 weeks. The “missy” told me that the vaccination is against Malaysia flu, Canadian flu and etc … and that it will last from 6 to 12 months.
“Missy” asked all the relevant medical history and before she took out the needle, she asked if I was the type that faint easily. Haha.. I told the “missy”, no but I rather not see the needle. Yes, I’m chicken-shit.
No, I didn’t cry or scream. After that, she gave me this weird looking green lolly and asked me to suck on it and sit at the waiting area for 15mins. Apparently, the lolly and the resting after the shot was to counter the shock. Hahaa. Since my office is so near, I went back and continued working.
Co, my new friend, and I decided that we deserve something to reward ourselves for the injection. Seeing that we have our ‘poor-thing’ sandwich everyday for lunch, we decided to go somewhere nice for lunch. So off to a little japanese place to have nice hot soupy udon in this cold 10 degrees autumn day.
Co, who had the shot before me, emailed me at 3pm, telling me that she feels quite oozy. At that time, I realised I was feeling quesy and nauseous too. Too bad, the nurses are already gone for the day, else I could pop in and ask if it’s the side effect of the vaccination or just our lunch.
*Yes, the lolly looks a bit weird.
